A look at how the media reports GMO issues

The media approach to the “Long term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize” study:

Study says	an ACPFG§ comment	What we consumers think
In females, all treated groups died 2-3 times more than controls, and more rapidly.	“they're dealing with geriatric rats”	So? The results show a unequivocal increase in death - what does the age matter?
Females developed large mammary tumors almost always more often than and before controls	“as anybody who has kept a rat will know, they die after two years”	Sounds like a significant increase in breast cancer to us - do you want to chance it?
the pituitary was the second most disabled organ	“contradicts more than 100 other scientific studies over the past 20 years”	hmmm - who paid for those 100 studies we wonder. No mention is made of the studies it agrees with.
the sex hormonal balance was modified by GMO and Roundup treatments	“when we are doing something completely novel there will be unexpected consequences over longer time periods”	Our view precisely - how many of our descendants will have “died from unexpected consequence” as their epitaph?
in treated males, liver congestions and necrosis were 2.5-5.5 times higher	“There is a very strong campaign out there to discredit the research and people should be aware of that campaign”	Are they talking about themselves?
Marked and severe kidney nephropathies were also generally 1.3-2.3 greater	“you have to be really careful to have the right controls”	I suppose the aim is to use a selected control group which will give the results you want? This seems to destroy the whole notion of using control groups to assess the differences caused by the GMOs.
Males presented 4 times more large palpable tumors than controls which occurred up to 600 days earlier	“the absence of controls in the study is an absolutely terrible omission”	Ahh - If the controls weren't selected to produce the desired results then you can claim there were no controls? The scientific approach of the pro-GMO parties exposed by their own words?
Biochemistry data confirmed very significant kidney chronic deficiencies	“this latest study contains serious and basic scientific flaws.”	Because it disagrees with the opinions of our meal ticket?
results can be explained by the non linear endocrine-disrupting effects of Roundup	“You can't draw any statistically significant conclusions from that at all”	Of course not - a 3-fold increase in mortality is almost insignificant. And that is exactly the view these people have of you and I and the rest of humanity - 3 times as many deaths is "insignificant".
results can also be explained by the overexpression of the transgene in the GMO and its metabolic consequences.	“the study is alarmist”	Too bl**dy right it is - and so it bl**dy should be - although we see this as a compliment, we suspect the ACPFG and the media were using it as a means of dismissing the findings,
