Furnishing

The “fleshing-out” process

-

The Kitchen

Here you see it complete with containers, canisters and cooking gear.

It would take us another 3 years before we added the cupboard doors and final touches to make it look “normal”.

It's amazing how quickly a space can be filled - no matter how long it took to build!

The Flight deck

This room was named once the building took shape - it felt at times so like a flying creature (much the same shape as the Millennium Falcon of Sky Wars fame that we just started referring to this space as the “Flight Deck”

This website is being built right there at the desk built from a large (75mm thick) river she-oak flitch.

The Clinic

The shelves in Trijntje's Clinic - to test their load-bearing capacity, we hung 2 fully-grown men from the top shelf - not a quiver!

Another great advantage of rammed earth is that you can attach structures anywhere with equal ease - no searching for studs.

The shelf brackets are made from local sally wattle (aka black wattle).

The bedroom

At last - after many years neglect and standing in paddocks under tarps etc - the family bed is reassembled, dusted down and put in place!

We found everything - all the screws and bits and pieces needed to put it together, although we did elect to replace the slats with new oak ones.

It still works!

But wait - there's more - the bedhead still lit up without a hitch - we were quite overjoyed as the many bush rats who had made it there home at different times had mercifully spared the wiring!
