Sandstoning the apron

part I

The Sandstone arrives

In May of 2005 we were fortunate to complete the process of realigning our northern boundary which reunited the environment around the Temple.

Once we had finished the initial earthmoving to create access and growing areas we embarked on the long-overdue task of laying sandstone around the temple.

The sandstone cometh

There were about 170 square metres of apron, including the front stairs, which needed to be constructed.

We ordered 160 square metres of 40mm thick sandstone "seconds" which duly arrived on a semi trailer which the driver insisted he had to unload at the top of the drive.

This was over 150 metres from the work site and was totally unacceptable.

The sandstone cometh closer

Fortunately the driver was sympathetic to our plight - if the sandstone was left at the top of the drive we would have had a huge job just to move it to the site.

Despite his misgivings about driving the loaded 3-wheeled forklift down a fairly steep gravel drive, he safely delivered the 8 pallets onsite and we were ready to go.

The sandstone cometh closest

Some of the pallets, patiently awaiting the preparation phase before they began being used in earnest.

There is about 20 square metres of crazy-pave sandstone on each pallet, we had visited the quarry at Helidon and selected the sandstone ourselves.
